Canada Fall Economic update leaves opposition leaders furious amid housing, food crisis

Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland tabled her fall economic statement on Tuesday, updating Parliamentarians and citizens on the country’s financial health while introducing some new measures to target the housing crisis.

Leaders from the opposing government parties, however, were left seemingly disappointed by the updates.

Directly after the announcement, in the House of Commons, Conservative party leader Pierre Poilievre said he would vote “non-confidence” on the budget, calling the fiscal plan a “disgusting scheme” that raises prices, taxes and increases Canada’s debt.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said while it was a “positive” that the federal government is finally implementing “micro” measures to mitigate inflation relating to housing and grocery costs, the implementations do "not meet the urgency of what Canadians are going through.”

Green party leader, Elizabeth May expressed dismay with many of the “recycled” initiatives Freeland offered. “Greens always applaud recycling,” she joked.
