Rostov The Great is one of the oldest Russian towns founded in at least 862 on Lake Nero. It is the same age as Novgorod and Kiev. Almost 200 years older than Moscow.

It is located in about 150km north from Moscow by interstate Moscow-Yaroslavl. One of the centres of Yaroslavl Region, 53km south-west from Yaroslavl.

Rostov Velikiy (Rostov The Great) used to be one of the central towns of Rostov-Suzdal land.

The history could turn different way and Rostov The Great could become a capital of Russia. But it turned another way.

Now Rostov The Great is a nice and quite historical town, a part of Golden Ring of Russia, with a population of 30,000 residents.
