Donald Trump appears ‘strong’ and ‘convicting’: Alexander Downer
Former foreign minister Alexander Downer has boiled Donald Trump’s success in the US presidential race down to people’s yearning for “strong” and “convicting” leaders.
“The thing about Donald Trump is he’s very charismatic – he’s very watchable on TV and very dynamic,” Mr Downer told Sky News host Steve Price.
“I think people are looking nowadays, everywhere - including in Australia, for strong leaders and leaders of conviction.
“Whatever you think of Donald Trump, he comes across that way, so a lot of people - including a lot of young people are responding pretty positively to him.”
Donald Trump defeated former UN ambassador Nikki Hayley at New Hampshire’s Republican primary this week, solidifying his lead to become the party’s nominee for president.
