Fin Finder Mobile App
Fin Finder is the first-of-its-kind AI-based mobile app for shark and ray fin identification to combat illegal wildlife trade. It is a project led and developed by Conservation International in collaboration with Singapore's National Parks Board and the first phase was supported by Microsoft, Rumah Foundation and other partners. The first version of Fin Finder, launched on World Oceans Day in June 2022, has achieved a species classification across an initial set of 35 elasmobranch (shark and ray) species, of which 14 are listed on CITES Appendix II for regulated trade. The machine learning models in Fin Finder were developed using over 15,000 fin images obtained through collaborations with scientific and conservation experts, importers in Singapore and international organizations involved in wildlife protection.
