1960s GRAND PRIX MOTORCYCLE RACING FILM "THE RIGHT LINE" GERMANY, SCOTLAND, BRITAIN 57944

This early 1960s color film provides an introduction to Grand Prix motorcycle racing. It is produced by BP as an RHR Production. A motorcyclist passes and a close-up is shown of his helmet and goggles (:07-:35). A crowd gathers at a Bosch Motorsport stadium. A contestant walks his motorcycle. A motorcycle is pushed to the Tankdienst ("tank service") vehicle. The banner says BP Renndienst ("racing service). Contestants from different countries wait on their motorbikes for the race to begin. A man passes holding a 3 Min. sign (:36-2:06). Motorcyclists have their bikes inspected for the Scottish Six Days Trial. Cyclists ride uphill over bumpy terrain past onlookers and judges. Several fall over on their maneuvers (2:07-4:41). The Motocross Grand Prix at Hawkstone Park is shown. Riders wear race bibs that have their country flag on them. The racers kick up dirt as they move pass the crowd up and down hills, over moguls, and around curves. The checkered flag is waved (4:42-9:03). The Circuit race is shown at Cadwell Park. A man leans against a truck whose side advertises famed motorcycle racer Austin Munks. The checkered flag waves (9:04-10:58). Racer Bob McIntyre examines a motorcycle. Parts are shown up-close being adjusted. Parts are tested on a machine. McIntyre tests the motorcycle on the track. Closeups are shown from a side-view of his face, from the camera view over his shoulder, and from a helmet view as he runs the course. (He would tragically die in 1962.) (10:59-17:22). The Isle of Man motorcycle sport event (considered the most dangerous racing event in the world) is shown on June 15, 1960. The racers speed up and down hills and around tight curves on closed public roads. A large banner on a building advertises Shell X-100 Motor Oil (17:23-20:10). The camera cuts several times between the spectators and the race. The checkered flag waves. The winners have their pictures taken (20:11-21:47). The racers wait for the German flag to be dropped at the Bosch Grand Prix. The announcers are shown, followed by cuts between the spectators and the motorcycle racers as they move around bends in the track. The checkered flag waves. Winners pose wearing golden tire tubes with ribbons (22:48-26:43).
