Joseph R. Biden Jr. currently serves as the 47th Vice President of the United States under President Barack Obama. A graduate of the University of Delaware who received his law degree from Syracuse University, Vice President Biden won election to the U.S. Senate in 1972, at the age of 29, thus becoming the 5th youngest Senator in U.S. history. Winning reelection six times, he became Delaware's longest-serving Senator and was at the forefront of issues relating to terrorism, WMD, post-Cold War Europe, the Middle East and Southwest Asia. While serving in the Senate, he was also adjunct professor at Widener University School of Law. Best known for his work on foreign relations, criminal justice and drug policy, having served on and been chairman of the Foreign Relations and Judiciary committees, he has been a tireless advocate in shaping policies affecting and supporting education, energy, the environment, health issues, mass transit, women's issues, including the legislation of which he has been quoted as saying he is most proud, the landmark Violence Against Women Act. Vice President Biden is an ardent voice for solving the country's energy problems as a means to addressing matters such as global warming & climate change, endorsing major funding for biofuel research and development.
