The WBTB (Wake Back to Bed) technique is one of the most popular and effective methods for triggering lucid dreams, particularly for beginners. It involves waking up for a short period of time in the morning, and then going back to sleep again after 30-60 mins. The awake period is used to focus on your intention to lucid dream. This process usually results in extra vivid lucid dreams in your last REM phase.
AUDIO SPECS:
The first 3 mins features downward sloping sine waves and isochronic white noise pulses to quickly relax your mind and body. The rest of the audio contains a 4hz theta wave, interspersed with one-minute segments of a 12hz isochronic tone (the 'dream alarm'), designed to give your mind a 'jolt' during REM sleep, thus triggering full lucidity. These occur every 10 minutes, starting at 25:00 (35:00, 45:00 etc.) You should of course be asleep by then.
METHOD:
1) Set your alarm clock to go off 5-6 hours after you go to sleep. Get out of bed.
2) Fill your mind with thoughts related to lucid dreaming. Repeat affirmations and/or imagine your ideal lucid dream scenario. Read books or online resources related to lucid dreaming and fill in your dream-journal if you have one.
Stay awake for between 30 and 60 minutes. This is the time frame that the Lucidity Institute demonstrated to be the most effective.
3) Go back to bed and start your binaural beat audio (be sure to wear headphones). Stay focused on your intention to lucid dream and aim to fall asleep within the first 15-20 minutes. Low volume levels recommended so you're not startled awake. Skip ahead to the isochonics (every ten mins from 25:00) and set your levels prior to listening.
