Baldur’s Gate 3 early access is set for August (maybe) and we are counting down the days by digging into a fresh wodge of gameplay. This is the same area explored in the new Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay reveal, but taking a different route and fewer near death experiences. You also get to see Swen Vincke’s custom character play a drum, which is wild. We interviewed Nick Pechenin about this new Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay: he’s responsible for transforming 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons rules into game systems, so breaks down the benefits of the new combat system, how stealth improves rogues, why rangers have lots to look forward to and why the team had to look at every drop of water in the game to make vampires work. Nick handles all the rules and Baldur's Gate 3 classes. It sounds like a wild job.

Baldur’s Gate 3 combat has changed since we last saw the game (see our earlier gameplay breakdown here: https://youtu.be/IZ0LJ5BqYrk) with a new turn order that dramatically changes how fights work. Nick tells us why they changed it, how it improves the game and how a team of rogues might have fun with it. Speaking of rogues, they’re one of the reasons Baldur’s gate 3 stealth is the way it is: it draws inspiration from real-time tactics stealth games to create some tense gauntlets, and the chance to kick a goblin into the abyss. There’s loads of stuff to unpick in this new Baldur’s Gate III gameplay. And this is only part one of our breakdown.
