The Leopard 2 is a German battle tank originally developed to replace the M48 Patton tanks used by the Bundeswehr and to evolve alongside the Leopard 1 already in service. The Leopard 2 outperformed the latter in terms of mobility, protection and firepower. Its good reputation is internationally recognized.
