Robotic palletizing at one of Taiwan's biggest dairy manufacturers

Sunford is a big food manufacturer in Taiwan that produces dairy products for its own brands as well as other OEMs. Furthermore, it is also a well-known supplier of dairy cattle feed for dairy farming in Taiwan.

In the past, stacking was done manually at the end of the production line. However, Sunford encountered the challenge that there was a huge increase in demand but a lack of manpower, since less and less people are willing to do this heavy work. For stacking, 50kg bags of feed needed to be handled by one person, and employees therefore often suffered from occupational injuries.

In order to protect the health of employees and improve quality control, Sunford invited King Hong Industrial Co., Ltd., an official system partner of KUKA, to develop an automated solution for Sunford's production lines using KUKA robots to perform automated stacking operations.

KUKA's experience in robotics combined with King Hong Industrial's experience in automated packaging and stacking operations in the food industry, not only significantly helped to improve the efficiency of the production line, but also reduced the amount of physical work for the employees which can now focus on quality control tasks.
