Breaking down the opportunities in the lucrative first trading hour. Is there a best time of the day to day trade? This is particularly for day traders. The first trading hour attracts extremes in people; some hate it, others love it. Personally I think its a good opportunity to trade but it may not be for everyone.
I'm looking at the Dow Jones from a UK perspective breaking it down into different chunks below:
Day Trading Hours: Not All Hours Are Equal
1) 14:30 - 14.35 - choppy, often noisy (lots of people piling orders hitting the market). For most traders it is best to step aside here and try getting clues on what is likely to happen.
2) 14.35 - 14.55 - initial drive / solid move leading to supply/demand imbalance (of course not always). At this point you can look for a trade.
3) 14.55 - 15.10 - potential reversal / data
4) 15.10 - 15.30 - mini trends
Please note that these segments change according to the volatility and prevalent market conditions at the time but its a good starting point
