Chechnya - Russian Shelling & Bombing Resumes

(12 Jan 1995) Russian tanks and jets resumed shelling and bombing the Chechen
capital, Grozny, on Thursday morning (12/1). After a brief lull,
the fighting is reportedly becoming more intense. Salvo after
salvo of artillery fire was slamming into the city centre. The shortage of water has led some residents to attempt dangerous walks to the last remaining water source. The small lake is about two kilometres from the Presidential palace where shells and bombs are falling ever closer.
