Jigging Michigan Whitefish
Fishing for Great Lakes whitefish in the depths of Lake Michigan. These tasty little buggers aren't easy to find. When you can locate them though, you'll have a serious fight on your hands along with some fantastic table fare. Sometimes they'll be suspended in the water column, and other times they'll be right on bottom.
The tackle selection included a medium 6'6" bass style bait caster combo, spooled up with braid. The jig was heavy (1oz.+) ice fishing style jig. There are many different colors and styles available on the market that will all work.
With this deep water jigging technique, you won't know what's under the boat until you catch a few out of the same area. You could get whitefish, lake trout, brown trout, or even salmon!
