In today’s episode of the Atheist Experience, Forrest Valkai and @TheThinkingAtheist Seth Andrews wrestle with callers who believe atheism is suicidal, empty tomb questions, and god saving us from himself.

First caller is Nikol from Armenia who asks if the hosts are trying to get people to stop believing and why they focus on Abrahamic religions. These types of religions are on every street corner, actively working to remove our rights, and setting people against each other. Atheism is not a world view or position other than not being convinced that a god exists. It is better to have a human connection and admit that we don’t know what happens after death than lie to people about there being an afterlife. Can you think of an evil thing that an atheist would do because of not having religion?

Amanuel from TX says that god is good because he saves us from the death that is caused by our sins. Who made the rules, and who decides how to judge us? Is it possible that this god can change his mind? Why did god create a bunch of people for the sole purpose of torturing them in hell forever? If you are predestined for hell then it does not matter what you do and this is one of the reasons it is problematic that god can do whatever he wants. Your whole job is to exist as a worshiper or be nothing but a sinner in the hands of an angry god.

A Believer from the USA believes scriptures show many ways to salvation, and asks if atheism is suicidal. How do you know there are many paths to heaven? Does your level of belief have any bearing on whether something is true? If you believe certain things, then you can do atrocious things. How do you know the elephant behind the bookshelf in Forrest’s room is not on the menu at Cracker Barrel? We have to do what we do because religion has made it necessary.

Robert in GA asks the hosts what their thoughts are about the empty tomb and resurrection narrative. Is there any evidence for this and why does the Bible contradict itself for the most important concept in Christianity? Why are people motivated to write down myths, and why do they believe them? The accounts of the four gospels are not even eyewitness accounts. Christ was not even the first dying and rising god. This is simply something that we can’t verify. How many women visited the tomb, was it two or just Mary Magdalene?
