The concept of reincarnation, which is common to Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, is alien to people who practice the Abrahamic religions such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam and it is mostly misunderstood and misinterpreted in the western world.

The topic of reincarnation usually generates a lot controversy because it directly challenges the western notions of one birth, one God, one heaven and the Day of Judgment.

So what exactly is reincarnation and how does it fit into the Hindu framework?
