An elephant's life has ended | Sheldrick Trust
'Contains graphic images' On the 30th of March an elephant was seen collapsed and it soon became clear the elephant was dead.
This remarkable and rare footage of elephants gathering to mourn becomes all the more poignant with the knowledge that this elephant was a victim of poaching, shot with a poison arrow. The DSWT Mobile Veterinary Unit arrived at the scene and they discovered the poison arrow wound which killed the elephant. This tragic death could have been prevented. They followed procedures to remove the elephants tusks, sadly necessary to confiscate the ivory from the poachers and to ensure it did not enter the market and perpetuate the illegal ivory trade.
Please help support our projects which save hundreds of wild animals from this kind of death every year by logging onto our website and making a donation.

Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.
