It's been a life-long interest, in spite of the cold, corruption and, sometimes, chaos. But Russia is a crucial player in the world and Jill Dougherty explains why.

Jill Dougherty is CNN's Foreign Affairs Correspondent and an expert on Russia, having spent nine years as CNN's Moscow Bureau Chief.

She began studying the Russian language as a freshman in high school and has lived, worked and reported from Russia, traveling throughout the country. In this talk she explains what makes Russia tick - for her - and why you should care about Russia.
