‘Gale-force winds’ Cyclone Kirrily upgraded to category three storm

Tropical Cyclone Kirrily is still producing ‘gale-force’ winds, Sky News Weather Meteorologist Alison Osborne says.

“Definitely seeing gale-force winds still – but the heavier rain from this morning and the damaging winds of over 115km per hour certainly easing back,” Ms Osborne told Sky News host Steve Price.

“That said, wave heights out to sea are the real issue with tourism operators – suspended for the entire weekend in some cases.

“The warning was for the islands to prepare for isolation, they’re certainly isolated even though conditions improved here.”

Townsville is facing the threat of a direct hit from a category three tropical cyclone.
