Learn, Unlearn, Relearn: The Mindset for Success | Travin Singh | TEDxBITSHyderabad
Food upcycling is an exciting idea - using excess products as ingredients for a new dish opens up a whole new world of opportunities. The challenge of finding unique ways to absorb an element into a recipe inspires innovative combinations that result in powerful new flavours and thus, upcycling bridges the gap between the sustainability and culinary realms.
Travin Singh is the founder of CRUST Group, a social tech startup at the forefront of food loss management. At TEDxBITSHyderabad, Travin shares his journey as an entrepreneur in a nascent, emerging field. From his childhood to his first customers, interactions with various people have shaped his mindset towards the business - and it’s still changing. He stresses the importance of this constant adaptability in a startup environment; understanding, analysing and absorbing feedback is what transformed his vision for the company.
Travin believes that the answer to the global issue of food wastage lies in collaboration with producers, consumers and everyone in between. He narrates the experiences that led him to this conclusion, the lessons learnt along the way and the ideas he has for the future to achieve his dream - reducing global food waste by 1% by 2030.
From incorporating leftovers into meals to founding a food tech startup, Travin Singh’s journey into the realm of food waste management and sustainability is a remarkable one. It was while serving in the Singapore Navy that Travin had his first eureka moment. Seeing opportunity in the large amounts of unsold bread thrown out daily, he perfected the art of brewing, starting from YouTube and painstakingly improving his recipe. Four years later, CRUST Group was born, their first product being a bread based beer. Today, the company aims to fight the perennial issue of food loss and has wonderful ambitions - to reduce global food waste by 1% by 2030. Presenting TEDxBitsHyderabad 2021’s keynote speaker, a passionate food waste fighter driving the upcycled food movement, the creative and dynamic Travin Singh. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
