Dr. Eugene Borowitz: Reform Judaism Today and Martin Buber

Author, lecturer, and philosopher Dr. Eugene Borowitz explores how Reform Judaism operates in the modern world. This lecture is a part of a series exploring the modern Jewish identity. Borowitz frames his discussion through the perspective of Austrian Israeli philosopher Martin Buber. He explains what distinguishes the Reform movement from Orthodox and Conservative Judaism and deconstructs the idea of what it means to “know God” as a Reform Jew. Borowitz explains that Reform Judaism is ultimately not connected to any written tradition or scripture as much as it relies on an individual’s internal feelings, observations, and ability to believe. The lecture is followed with questions from the audience.

Recorded April 5, 1960 at The 92nd Street Y, New York.
