Marty Cooper, Inventor of the Cell Phone on Innovation and Mobile Health at Exponential Medicine

Marty Cooper, is widely regarded as the father of the cellular phone who led the team that in 1972–73 built the first mobile cell phone and made the first cell phone call. The cell phone has played a massive role in catalyzing mobile, connected and digital health.

At Exponential Medicine, Marty shared his perspectives on innovation, collaboration, exponential technologies, and the promise and possibilities for mobile phones and computing in the future of health and medicine. Marty is now working on expanding and improving access to cell phone coverage to improve communication, health and education equity.

Marty was joined for this discussion at Exponential Medicine 2019 by Dr. John Mattison, CMIO Emeritus at Kaiser Permanente, and Dr. Daniel Kraft, founder and chair of Exponential Medicine.
Marty was awarded the 1st Exponential Medicine 'Maverick Award'.
