Top Mount Subwoofer Front Kerfed Ported Plywood Box - DIY

Custom-made subwoofer box for a client's JBL S3-1224 subwoofer, to be installed and fitted within Hyundai Sonata's limited trunk space height. So I designed the box low and flat. To make this happen, the subwoofer must be mounted on top while the kerfed slot port is front firing. Making the subwoofer slightly forward and off center at the top baffle where it sits.

Here are the project highlights:
00:00 - Bass Box Pro and WinISD calculated enclosure resonance is 30Hz
00:25 - FREE schematics to TinkerCad - https://www.tinkercad.com/things/1rmWgua99ma-jbl-s3-1224-top-firing
00:58 - Shopping for a sheet of mighty expensive Santa Clara marine plywood. I will never buy this again. Ever.
01:40 - I doubled the top baffle so I can cut a flush mounting for the subwoofer driver.
02:40 - Upper panels were secured by glue and pocket hole screws at the internal side.
03:40 - Perfect 90 degree kerf cut! 12 kerf cuts with 10mm distance interval. "No nails" all purpose adhesive makes the kerfs bent 90 degree rock solid.
06:45 - All edges were rounded by a chamfer router bit.
07:30 - Dark walnut oil wood stain topped with clear gloss lacquer.
10:10 - Final enclosure resonance verified at 22Hz using Dayton Audio DATS v3.

I think that's it for today's subwoofer build. And of course I ended up testing the system with a 10-100Hz tone sweep and a heavy bass hiphop track at the end. I hope you all enjoy this another episode of Charcoal Monkey's DIY subwoofer boxes!
