Songs for Hope: Kate's Club and Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation
On September 18th, 2023 Surgeon General Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy recognized the heroic work to support mental health and well-being during the last years of the pandemic. In a ceremony presented in the Concert Hall, he awarded the Surgeon General’s Medallion—the highest honor he can present to a civilian—to individuals or organizations who exemplify unusual acts of compassion, innovative mental health efforts, and exceptional leadership in advancing the well-being of their communities.
In this video we hear the stories of two of the recipients: Kate's Club and Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation.
Kate’s Club’s mission is to empower children and teens, their families, and young adults facing life after the death of a parent, sibling, caregiver, or someone important to them. One in 12 children nationally will experience the death of a parent or sibling before age 18, and this number doubles by the time a child turns 25 years old.
Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation:
J. Corey Feist, JD, MBA is the Co-Founder of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation. He is a health care executive with over 20 years of experience and recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Virginia Physicians Group, the medical group practice of UVA Health comprised of 1200+ physicians and advanced practice providers.
