Michael Dunlop makes KDM Hire Cookstown 100 return

Michael Dunlop, star of the recent Armoy road races will return to the Orritor Circuit on Friday 10th & Saturday 11th for a highly anticipated 2 days of racing. The Ballymoney rider, who last raced at Cookstown in 2018 will compete in both 600 supersport and Open races on his MD Racing Yamaha and Synetiq BMW by TAS Racing machines.

Along with 20 newcomers to the circuit, last year’s man of the meeting, Adam McLean, along with Teammate Darryl Tweed will both be in action for the local-based McAdoo racing team. Logan Racings Neil Kernohan, along with Sam Greif, have had to pull out, due to injuries received at the recent Armoy road races.

The ever-consistent Michael Sweeney is also on the grid, and will be back in the 600 class, Micko, suffered engine problems with his 600 and has only got the problem sorted, and will be on the grid. Cork rider, Mike Browne will be the lone runner for the local Burrows Engineering/RK Racing team, whilst Paul Jordan has entered but has yet to specify what machinery he may ride.

One of the leading riders entered for the 2021 KDM Hire Cookstown 100, Derek McGee, the Mullingar Missile has had to withdraw his entry for this year's event, following a training incident last weekend. McGee, a past winner over the Orittor circuit, and the rider who finished closest to Michael Dunlop at the recent Armoy road races broke his pelvis in seven places when he was high-sided from an off-road machine.

Due to the current Pandemic situation, the 2021 KDM Hire Cookstown 100 will be run as a ‘Closed Event’, and the Protocol for spectators will remain the same as last year.

Practice for the race will take place on Friday, and it is hoped to run Three of the races on Friday evening, with the remaining races on Saturday.
