How to make a Storybook Cake! with Shelby Bower

Cake artist, Shelby Bower creates a floating storybook cake!

I use to own a little online store with my husband where we sold vintage books. I was interested in book binding and repair, (I have a lot of random interests besides cakes) but never got around to actually doing it. So now that I am a cake decorator, I love to make book cakes! Especially fairytale/ storybook themed! My goal with this cake was to create a floating book design with vines, sugar flowers, and flowing realistic pages. I use fondant, wafer paper, sculpted cake, copper tubing, gum paste, and floral tape to pull off this design. I hope you guys enjoy!

Hi Y’all! I’m Shelby Bower and I am a cake and sugar artist. You might recognize me from Halloween Wars Season 8 where I was the sugar artist for Zesty Zombies! I make fun, creative cake videos and I post my creations every week! I have been a cake artist for a while now and I make all sorts of cakes! I make large over the top wedding cakes, crazy sculpted cakes, little cute painted cakes, cake pops, painted cookies, all types of cookies really! I love making oversized cookies, isomalt creations, sugar show pieces... whatever you can dream up I can make it out of cake! I use cake, isomalt, sugar, candy, fondant, cookies, buttercream (American buttercream is my favorite) royal icing, sprinkles… I even have a special recipe that uses flax seed (eww gross) to make realistic grass for my crazy cake creations.
