Nordlandsbanen
Sie ist die einzige Bahnstrecke in Norwegen, die den Polarkreis überquert. Die Ofotbane nach Narvik liegt zwar weiter im Norden, aber der Polarkreis wird bereits auf schwedischer Seite von der Malmbana gekreuzt.
Die Fahrzeit über die Gesamtstrecke beträgt etwa 10 Stunden.

Der erste Teil Trondheim–Hell (weiter nach Schweden) wurde mit der Meråkerbane 1881 fertiggestellt. Als Planer der Nordlandsbane entwickelte Ole Tobias Olsen 1881/1882 die Idee,
sie bis Røsvik und weiter über Nordschweden, Finnland und St. Petersburg bis Peking zu führen.

Der Abschnitt bis Fauske wurde 1958 eröffnet und die gesamte Strecke bis Bodø am 7. Juni 1962. Für eine Fortführung der Nordlandsbane weiter nach Norden wurden Pläne für eine sogenannte Nord-Norgebane (dt. Nord-Norwegenbahn) ausgearbeitet,
die zu Beginn der 1990er Jahre vom Storting auf Eis gelegt wurden.

Auf Anweisung von Statens jernbanetilsyn wurde der Haltepunkt Levanger sykehus am 11. Dezember 2010 trotz einer Frequenz von etwa 80 bis 90.000 Fahrgästen pro Jahr geschlossen.
Begründet wurde die Schließung damit, dass der Haltepunkt in einer Kurve liegt und mit 600 Metern einen zu geringen Abstand zum Bahnhof in Levanger hat.
Dafür wurde ein beleuchteter Fußweg vom Bahnhof Levanger bis zum geschlossenen Haltepunkt und dem dort bei dessen Eröffnung angelegten Parkplatz gebaut
