Aretha Louise Franklin: Her Husbands and Children

The legend of soul and R’n’B music, Aretha Louise Franklin, born in 1942, definitely changed the world of music. She started her career early in her childhood – her father was a Baptist priest in a church, and little Aretha used to sing there during ceremonies.

The award-winning singer was married twice.

She first tied the knots in 1961 with Ted White. Franklin’s father was initially against the marriage, but the starry singer was never attentive to her parent’s words. The couple was together for 8 years, but the connection could hardly be called happy. Her husband used to abuse her. Moreover, smoking weed and drinking alcohol became a routine matter in their house. Finally, the singer filed for divorce.

Aretha Louise’s second marriage lasted for six years. She met her future spouse, actor Glynn Turman, in 1977. Glynn had already been previously married and was the father of three kids. The star and her husband got married after a year of dating in Franklin’s father church.

The iconic singer is the mother of four boys.

Her first son, Clarence Franklin Jr, was born in 1955. His legendary mother was only twelve at that moment. The father of the baby was Donald Burk – a boy, Aretha knew from school.

Clarence’s younger half-brother Edward Franklin was born two years later to Edward Jordan, when the music legend was fourteen. The two boys were raised mostly by Aretha’s grandmother Rachel and sister Emma.

Ted White Jr arrived in Franklin’s official marriage with Ted White, in 1964. Aretha’s son is widely known in music world as Teddy Richards. He is a successful guitar player, and used to accompany his mother during her live concerts.

The last son of the Respect singer Kecalf Cunningham was born in 1970. His father, Ken Cunningham, was a road manager of the music legend and her lover for some time. Kecalf is now a hip-hop singer. However, he didn’t fully inherit his mother’s talent, and his performances are frequently unsuccessful. The youngest Franklin’s son is the father himself. Victorie Franklin, the singer’s granddaughter, is an aspiring young singer.
