I wanted a dust collector with a bigger container for shavings and one that avoinds most of the typical shop vac problems.
I used the power head from an old shop vac and built a new housing out of a steel barrel and a piece of acrylic pipe. The key part of the new housing is the cyclone separator that is located underneath the original cartrige filter. The cyclone filters out all the bigger particles and leaves only the very fine ones for the cartrige filter.
