Successes We Can Learn from Montessori | Serene Jiratanan | TEDxPunnawithi

"When education is transformed, humanity will transform,” Serene Jiratanan.

Education must enable us to find our purpose. Ideally, we get educated to transform us from the ordinary, unaware state of being, to a transformed and enlightened state of being. Education is not just a matter of the quantity of knowledge and skills, but it involves being able to discover the core of who we are and set us on a path to live our lives with meaning. Today's education system is a legacy of the military and factory system and does not satisfy our children's needs. Serene discusses how Montessori education addresses many of the challenges raised and offers an alternative education model that has withstood the test of time.

Serene Jiratanan is the founder and Principal of Montessori Academy Bangkok International School, the leading trilingual Montessori school in Bangkok. Serene is passionate about supporting the development of multi-lingual capabilities in children and about the transformative potential of personalized and purposeful education experiences. The arrival of her daughter inspired her to leave the corporate world to start a Montessori school. Serene obtained her Bachelors in Economics from Cornell University, MBA from MITSloan and her Masters in Education from Pacific Oaks College. She pursued further studies in Montessori pedagogy and is currently the only educator in Thailand to be certified by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) at all levels of Montessori education from birth through high school.
