Details of the Devil: The History of Duke's Mascot

There is so much more to the Blue Devil than you know. Details of the Devil: The History of Duke’s Mascot tells you all the stories you never knew about Duke University’s iconic symbol.

Beyond being named after a group of famous French soldiers from World War I, there have been 100 years of stories, shenanigans and students that have entertained fans around the world. This film captures many of the endearing moments that have made the Blue Devil so special.

Prepared as part of Duke’s Centennial Celebration, Details of the Devil is a delightful deep dive into the origins of Duke's mascot, as well as many of the "behind the mask" stories of the students that have portrayed the Blue Devil over the years.

Editorial Note: We have received additional information that suggests the introduction of the Big Head costume did not occur until the 1981-1982 academic year. Much of our information has been gathered orally, so please excuse slight discrepancies like this.
