Asking a girl out can be challenging. It takes a lot of guts to do that. But even takes more when you are shy, not-so-popular and in high school. I'm sure everyone at some point has experienced asking someone out, and all of the intense feelings of nervousness that come with it. It's definitely something that's not easy to do for many.

Dakota Nelton is a young high school sophomore student from Gray, Louisiana. He had never been so bold to ask girls out, even though he really liked his friend. He was never able to muster up the courage to ask her out. It was a really big moment for him when he decided to ask her to the homecoming dance with him. Once the courage is built up and obtained, it can make a person feel empowered. There's no better way to feel before doing something that takes a lot of nervousness to overcome

Unfortunately, she said no — and it happened that she said no in front of their classmates. This caused them to laugh, and make fun of him while laughing and making jeers at him. While walking away, he stepped on the handmade poster which he used to pop the question. A single moment like that is enough to crush anyone's spirit. Kids are already going through tons of social stigmas while being at school, an experience like this in front of many classmates surely isn't going to help.

In shame, Dakota walked away from the laughing students. He felt empty and he just wanted to disappear, never to be seen again. “It was actually a pretty tough moment standing in a small circle with that one shake of the head and you just got to find your way out of that circle,” he told WGNO New Orleans. To say it was embarrassing is almost certainly an understatement. Everyone handles embarrassment differently too, so just because some people are able to handle it well, doesn't mean others can.

To make matters worse, someone took a video of the rejection and posted it on Facebook. On Facebook, the video was viewed thousands of times. It was hurtful to have people all over the country watch the poor teen being rejected in love, and then mocked and jeered at. It's one thing for the situation to be limited to the area in which it occurred, but it becomes an entirely different one when it's published to the internet for potentially the whole world to see. And of course, once something is published to the internet, it's there forever. People can download copies and upload it to various other websites so that the memory will always live on. Luckily in most cases, the internet tends to move from one thing to another rather quickly. That doesn't make how things feel in the heat of the moment any better though.

After a few days, Dakota arrived in school. He had no idea that something unexpected was about to hit him. Some might refer to it as good karma to balance out all of the negative karma he had been receiving as of late due to the situation.

While walking through the hallways, Dakota was approached by a total of 13 girls. Each of these girls held up a sign, and they wanted to be his date for the homecoming dance. It was a delightful and heartwarming scene to watch. Getting rejected by the one girl you like, then having 13 girls all wanting to be your homecoming date surely had to make some positive impact on Dakota. Does it make everything better? Probably not. But it's much better than the whole school continuing to have his embarrassing rejection as their most recent memory. It's almost certain that the same people who were laughing and continued to laugh, aren't laughing now.

It is sweet to know that Dakota is getting the last laugh. After this whole experience, it's probably something he needed and something that will help lift his spirits. After all, how many kids can actually look back and say that they had 13 girls asking them to be their date to homecoming? Other outrageous situations similar to this have probably occurred, but there are probably very few legitimate ones out there.
