Made by famed filmmaker Warren Miller for the Sears department store chain, this short film features Olympic champion Othmar Schneider (1928-2012) demonstrating his special skiing system. The "Austrian" technique came about in the early 1950 and started the new wave of skiing. It featured turns made in the legs and lower body, with the upper body quiet.
Schneider was born in Lech am Arlberg. At the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, he was the gold medalist in the slalom and the silver medalist in the downhill.
This is one of Warren Miller's earliest films, and one of a series that helped launch his career as the sport's most prolific, and important, cinematic promoter.
