DIRECT SPEECH | English writing lesson and exercises

This is an English writing lesson about direct speech.

Direct speech is when we report the exact words that somebody says.

In this lesson I explain the different punctuation rules for when the reporting clause is before the direct speech and when it is after it.

You will learn where and how to use commas, full stops (periods), question marks, exclamation marks and inverted commas (also known as) quotation marks, speech marks or quotes.)

I also give you some other useful examples of reporting verbs to use when writing direct speech.

Finally, at the end of the grammar lesson, there is an exercise to test your understanding.

If you have any questions, please ask me in the comments.
