Tech Repair: Sears Tele-Games (Atari 2600) - Broken Port and RF Tuning
In this episode of Tech Repair, I have bought a Sears Tele-Games (light sixer) that needs some reconditioning. The Tele-Games is nothing more than a re-branded Atari 2600. But for only $5 its a steal! Apart from this system and a few games, I own nothing else related to Atari so I had to cobble together a universal PSU and a Sega Genesis controller to test this system. The problems include:
1] Left controller port is somewhat broken. The down direction on the joystick/D-pad does not work
2] Some solder joints were not manufactured correctly and are lacking solder
3] The cartridge slot is dirty and sometimes does not read games
4] Both controller ports are warped somehow and it is difficult to insert a controller without pushing really hard
5] There is some interference in the video so the RF transmitter needs to be fine tuned
6] All the switches on the Tele-Games are dirty and don't function like new
