Bridget Sampson, delivering the guest speaker address at the 2016 California State University, Northridge Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Resilient Scholar Graduation Celebration. This was just after beloved EOP Director José Luis Vargas passed away unexpectedly. The Educational Opportunity Program serves first-generation, historically low-income college students who are high-potential and demonstrate a high success rate when provided with customized support serviced. The Resilient Scholars are a very special population within EOP because they are former foster-youth, who despite having experienced unimaginable hardships, beat all the odds to attend and excel in college. Bridget was honored to be asked to give this talk to celebrate their graduation.
