Lindy Atkin: Architect
Bio: Lindy Atkin has been a co-director of Bark Design Architects with Stephen Guthrie since the practice formed in Noosa in 1997. Prior to returning to Australia, Lindy worked with three internationally renowned architects in London between 1989 and 1995: Nicholas Grimshaw, Future Systems and Richard Rogers. On her return, she worked with Sunshine Coast architects John Mainwaring and Lindsay and Kerry Clare and Sydney architects James Grose and Bligh Voller Nield.
As a current Queensland Chapter Councillor of the Australian Institute of Architects, Lindy is a Member of the Regional Affairs Committee. She is also a Community Director and the Deputy Chair of the UNESCO-endorsed Noosa Biosphere Governance Board. Lindy was the awarded the Outstanding Business Woman of the Year by the Sunshine Coast Business Women's Network in 2010. Alongside Stephen Guthrie, Lindy has focused on the continual professional development of a small regional Australian architectural practice, Bark Design Architects.

Synopsis: Experiencing spaces creates memories of how they make us feel. We need to make spaces memorable; they must evoke an emotional experience and spaces should always inspire.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
