To Create is To Unite | Kiran Khalap | TEDxBandra

For Kiran Khalap, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin’s definition is the mantra to live by. As brand consultant by day, his creativity is deployed for unifying organisations under one inspiring idea. His weekend pursuit of rock climbing explores creativity in the physical arena, since it is the only sport where no two challenges are the same.

His work of fiction is dedicated to themes of unification, drawing from the spiritual humus of Indian culture. His first book of fiction, ‘Halfway Up the Mountain’ used the leitmotif of the famous Six Verses of the Soul (‘Atma Shatakam') by the Hindu philosopher Adi Shankaracharya, who propounded the concept of non-dualism. His second book of fiction, ‘Two Pronouns and a Verb’ used the leitmotif of Ayurveda, which suggests that our psychosomatic constitution leads us to interpret the same reality differently.

Kiran has conducted workshops on creativity and synectics, a technique of group problem-solving, for institutions as diverse as Infosys and Bennett Coleman. Winner of the Asian Age Indo-UK Short Story writing Competition, 1995. Kiran lives with his wife Rajashree and two INDogs in Mumbai.

He was inspired by J Krishnamurti, the famous philosopher of the 20th century, and taught at his school in Benaras for four years. He practices yoga and an ancient form of meditation called vipassana.
