I use these in summer weather mountaineering in the wet Pacific Northwest, such as on and around Mt Rainier. Not too hot (e.g. Death Valley) and not too cold (e.g. Everest).

You could also use these for regular trail-hiking, though they may be a bit of overkill. These things are bombproof yet curiously lightweight for their sturdiness.

My wife actually has a similar pair only a step down in aggressiveness, and they have fantastic reviews for a reason. I had no idea Lowa made such awesome boots. Seriously good craftsmanship and engineering.

Pros:
- Very stiff and sturdy. Holds strap-on Petzl crampons perfectly.
- Stupidly comfortable. There's a reason why people say "never had a blister, even when breaking them in."
- "Rocker" style tread rocks you forward--almost propelling you forward like a running shoe. (I tested the $600 La Sportivas, and while they're incredible boots, they felt flat and clunky compared to these)
- Surprisingly lightweight compared to their bulk/protection.
- Thick, reenforced lower half adds life when accidentally nicking them with crampons.
- Very, very grippy tread. I was at a 45 degree pitch, not even close to sliding.
- Easy lace-up.
- Warm but not hot: I stayed comfortable all day slugging through the snow.
- Waterproof: Hiking through slushy, and I didn't get any dampness (save for a bit from my sweaty feet).
- Insoles are lightweight and airy. They dry out fast.
- Not as expensive as the La Sportivas.
- Bright red. They look bomber. Excellent for picking up chicks on the mountain.

Cons:
- You could probably buy an old, reliable car with the cost of these boots. Granted these boots would last twice as long due to their quality.

HINT/TRICK: Get your shoe sized professionally (i.e. in a shoe store) before shelling out for these! Getting even a 1/2 size too small or big will make or break your purchase. These are suppose to fit like a glove.

HINT/TRICK: Wear running toes sock + Smartwool hiking socks. You will never ever get a blister. Ever. Toe socks (while expensive being often times $20/pair) are totally worth it. They protect your toes from "rubbing" against each other, which causes blisters. The Smartwool of course keeps you dry and odor-free.

5/5 stars. Best boots I've ever owned. I will be climbing many, many mountains with these babies.
