How To Soak Grains & Why (+ Breakfast Porridge Recipe)

Jessica shows us how to soak grains and why this is a good idea for anyone with a leaky or inflamed gut (many kids with autism have GI problems).

She also makes a super nutritious and delicious breakfast porridge from soaked quinoa, millet and buckwheat that is naturally gluten-free and a great alternative to oatmeal.

RECIPE:

1/3 cup whole quinoa

1/3 cup whole millet

1/3 cup whole buckwheat groats

2 cups water

toppings of choice: raisins, dried cranberries, golden berries, seeds, nuts, coconut flakes, nut or seed butters, coconut oil whole food sweetener like maple syrup, raw honey or stevia… or YOUR favorite idea!

INSTRUCTIONS:
Rinse grain in a fine mesh strainer then soak the grains* for 8-24 hours. Put grains and water** in a medium sauce pan with a pinch of salt. Set to boil, then simmer for 25 min. Get your favorite toppings ready to decorate your porridge bowl upon serving.

*option to use amaranth or oatmeal as well or instead of my suggested grains. Mix and match or just pick one.

**You can use half water and half juice for the 2 cups liquid as an option
