Today were going to be doing a comparison of the Sony ZV-1 and the A7iii to better help you make an educated decision on which system is right for you. This is not a photography comparison only video because I don’t want to make this to long.
I'm comparing things that I find important on my cameras when I’m out shooting to get a good insight into how the two pair up to each other. Im using the Sony FE 28-70 lens on the A7iii and and setting it all the way back to 28 mm so it can directly compare to the ZV-1’s wide angle 24 mm Zeiss lens.
I have the same manual exposure settings set in both cameras and the menu systems match up so its as apples to apples as possible. I didn’t touch any of the picture profiles so you will be seeing exactly what the picture looks like straight out of camera however we do touch on picture profiles later in this video.
Now straight out of the box the A7iii comes in at around $2000 US whereas the ZV-1 is currently selling for just $750. Also the A7iii doesn’t come with a lens or Nd filter system whereas the ZV-I has it all in one place.
So Price savings definitely goes to the ZV-1.
So for the first comparison on which camera is more convenient to just pull out and go shoot that one goes to the ZV-1.
Now we're not going to go over the specs of the cameras just how they perform and what quality video they produce.
Next I know a hot topic amongst creators is the IBIS so that leads us to the next test.
The ZV-1 has two different features for Image stabilization Active and standard so we will be comparing both of those features to the A7iii’s IBIS system.
The first comparable is handheld and the 2nd one is with a gimbal. We're looking for those micro jitters you may get when you walk with a gimbal and for the smooth motion of the gimbal.
So both of these performed great on the gimbal and not so much handheld. The Active feature on the ZV-1 really took the win for handheld test but remember that it crops in so this may effect your composition. The A7iii performed more smoothly on the gimbal simply because it is a heavier setup so IBIS on the gimbal goes to the A7iii.
Alright so lets take a quick look at the autofocus technology. The ZV-1 does not have focus ring on its lens maybe because Sony is really confident you won’t even need it. I tested out the battery life of both cameras and I can get about 1 hour of constant shooting with the ZV-1 and about a half a day with the A7iii constantly shooting.
So battery life goes to the A7 iii.

All of the colors your seeing now are straight out of camera so Im interested to see what happens when we use S-Log 2 to see how much dynamic range we can get from both cameras. Both of these S-log2 profiles are set to the same parameters if you want me to post a video on how I set these profiles up just leave it in the description. I color graded both clips the same way and noticed some quality fall-off with the ZV-1’s range in color grade so this one goes to the A7iii.
