SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated may look like another forgettable collect-a-thon from the early 2000s, but it… well, it kinda is that. What elevated it back then was a sense of fluid movement that won it a huge speedrunning following. We don’t pretend to be speedrunners for the sake of this SpongeBob rehydrated review - by all accounts the new movement lacks the fluidity of the original game - but it’s still a noticeably nice game under the thumbs, with a fun mix of moves that double as combat and platforming abilities. And a bright colourful visual makeover that is one of the highlights explored in this SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom review.

SpongeBob Squarepants Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is far from perfect, but it will no doubt please fans of both the original BFBB game and the Nickelodeon cartoon. Time will tell whether or not the speedrunning community will be cruise-boosting their way to victory in SpongeBob Rehydrated.
