Ramund (A Re-telling of a Norse Folktale)

My retelling of the Scandinavian medieval folktale, “Ramund den Unge”.

There are a lot of different songs of Ramund/Ramunder the Young/Bold/Evil that have been sung for hundreds of years.
For some reason I felt compelled to collect a bunch of songs, blend them together and then make my own version that is a story.

If you’re Danish you might be familiar with a very different tale about Ramund from the Swedish ones. The tale has a lot of regional varieties across Scandinavia, and can be comedic or gruesome depending on where or when you hear it from.

My goal wasn’t to create a true, “authentic” version, only to do my own retelling. It is a mix of varieties of the song with my own changes and meanings added. One of the main changes being, well, it’s not a song anymore.

I encourage anyone suddenly thinking of making their own version to do so, and feel free to add my own variations.
After all, why do stories stop getting told? Because they stop changing.
