Self determination is freedom and a tool against prejudice | Xenia Tchoumi | TEDxKoeln
Xenia Tchoumi gives in her TEDxKoeln Talk an insight into her different identities. Internet is a low cost, democratic tool that – until now – has been quite unrestricted in many parts of the world. Women (and other social groups that are often discriminated against) have now a stronger voice and can reach a larger audience, just by sitting in front of a laptop or on a smartphone in their house. Forums, social media, blogs, video platforms and websites are all tools in which likeminded people can create communities and convey messages. Whether it’s trough entertainment, fashion, cooking, self-help or literature, the new technologies help us to branch out from old, rigid, social structures.
Xenia has made the experience of discrimination and sexism as an attractive woman in several professional fields she has worked in. She want to spread the message of how we can overcome these – thanks to tools like the internet, and mainly through a mentality shift for all men and women of 2015.
Xenia Tchoumi is an online entrepreneur, model and a digital celebrity. Swiss-Italian with Russian origins, she speaks six languages (Italian, Russian, English, German, French, Spanish) and holds a University degree in Science of Economics. Parallel to her studies and work experiences in investment banking, she was elected Miss Photogenique and first runner up at the Miss Switzerland contest. The attention from journalists brought her to fame: she then decided to self-manage her image and contracts and became spokes-model for major fashion brands and tv presenter.
Xenia hosted her own TV-show about business in Italy called „L’Italia Che Funziona“, interviews successful people in „La Recette De Mon Succès“ and has her own column in the american Haute Living Magazine and the British Le Grand Mag. She gives leadership speeches at universities and conferences.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
