OurTour Engine Braking a 3.5 Tonne Motorhome on a Mountain Road Descent
Driving heavy vehicles on mountain roads can cause problems with the brakes. Engaging a low gear helps, by forcing the engine to take some of the braking strain from the brakes themselves. If you don't engine-brake, you risk cooking your brakes which makes them not work properly, which really isn't much fun!
