Welcome to Omo Valley

Hey Ya'll!!!

Ethiopia is by far one of my favorite countries in the world, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to capture some of my experiences to share with you. To walk you through: I flew from my home city of Los Angeles (LAX) to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (ADD) where I met my friend Divya, who is also from the states. Upon arrival to Ethiopia, you will have to purchase of visa for $50 dollars (good for up to 30 days). We stayed in Addis Ababa for the night at the Golden Tulip (which was a nice 5 star hotel near the airport), which I highly recommend. The next morning we took a domestic flight out of ADD airport to Arba Minch (AMH), which was an hour flight. There, we met my tour guide Kali, who I found on Trip Advisor. Before confirming the trip, I talked to him for many months and got to know him before I decided he was the right guide for us..... and I'm glad I chose him!!!! Kali is very knowledgeable, kind, honest and attentive. I told him the tribes I wanted to see and he set up the hotels and tours.

The first day the hotel was Emerald Lodge in Arba Minch.
We visited the Dorze Tribe located Arba Minch (they are fun and like to get LIT as you can see lol).

The second day we drove south to the Konso Village (a total of 8 hours in the car). Along the way I saw some boys from Bana tribe (which is another very interesting tribe), who I jumped rope with.

The third day we kept driving south to Turmi, where we stayed at Emerald Lodge.
We visited the Hamer Tribe, which was walking distance from the Emerald Lodge. The same day, we drove more south to the Omo River near the border of Ethiopia and Kenya, where we encountered the Dassanech Tribe (one of my favorite tribes)!!! Later we visited the Hamer Market, where all the tribes come together to sell the arts and crafts.

The four day we drove to Jinka and stayed at the Orit Hotel. In Jinka, the plan was to see the Mursi Tribe.. but due to tribe murdering a driver of tourist, it was not safe to do so.

We flew out from Jinka (BCO) back to Addis Ababa (ADD), where we stayed again at the Golden Tulip hotel. That night we went to enjoy a cultural dinner and dance show at the famous Yod Abyssinia (must see!!).

The next morning me and my friend parted ways.... and I left to go to Zanzibar, Tanzania solo... which will be my NEXT VLOG!!!!!

He is highly recommended by me!!!! I told him want I wanted to do and he did all the planning. I sent him a deposit and paid him the remainder when I arrived in Arba Minch. He made sure we were safe and satisfied.

FYI: Omo Valley is very big and consists of 8 different tribes. To get from Arba Minch to Jinka is about 8 to 10 hours of driving, and NO the roads are not great. But it was beautiful scenery along the way. Make sure you get your vaccinations, especially when visiting the tribes. ONLY drink bottled water and be careful what you eat (I only ate at the hotels or restaurants). Make sure you do your research. Before I went I knew what I wanted to do and what tribes I wanted to see. It is very dangerous to go anywhere without adequate knowledge and understanding of its location. Please RESEARCH!!!

Tip: when purchasing flights to countries, be sure to NEVER choose a flight with multiple carriers (if one flight gets cancelled or delayed, the other flight/carrier will not honor or accommodate you)!!!!!! In some cases, you have no other choice.... but just keep that in mind.
