What is that? Just drive. You had him beat.

What has James Harden been upto...oh...oh. 4.8 free throws a game is nice.

Even last game against Atlanta, Harden just looked hesitant. He's just not driving. More than half of his makes in the past 3 games have been 3 pointers, his drives per game have dropped by half compared to last year from 17.1 to 8.3. He's not driving any more because one, he's not getting the foul calls, and 2, he's out of shape.

James Harden said that he wants to go back to scoring 30s and 40s in scoring. But he can't because he didn't get enough time to rehab his hamstring injury.

Wait, did he just refer to himself in the third person, say he's healthy, and that it's scary hours. Hmmm, so he's healthy, but not in game shape. Ok there you go right. That's what's going on, right?

It's been a Harden roast party for a minute these past couple of games. This chart is when it hit me that wow, James Harden is actually hurting his team in the regular season. Harden is not adding any offensive value at the current moment.

But hopefully this isn't a news update. James Harden is a really smart player. He's going to adjust, he's still 3rd in the league in assists. It's just that when you see things like this...or the fact that he's averaging under 20 points a game and he was getting called the best scorer in NBA history a few seasons ago so he is struggling right now.

The problem is that Harden is still foul hunting even though the NBA has literally changed rules to prevent that. But it goes even deeper than that. Now he's stopped attacking the hoop, it's almost as if he's calibrating. He went from 17.3 drives per game last season to 11.1 for the season. So a lot of these misses ain't because of a rule change. It's because he's reverting back to old habits, you can see him actively fighting his natural instincts. A lot of these shot attempts that would be called fouls before aren't. If you look at Harden's shot attempts the past couple of years, he's been around 21, on the Nets last year, it was 16.6, but that doesn't include free throw attempts. Harden has drawn more 3 point shooting fouls than any team in the NBA since he's been in the league. Huh, actually not surprising.

Those 4 shots per game that used to be fouls are now 4 extra show attempts. So right now Harden is taking 14 shot attempts, so actually he's taking about 6 shots less than last year. Game shape, sure, but shot selection is another.

He's still James Harden and so he's drawing double teams like it's nothing, but he's not attacking the first defender, not even moving out of the way. He lets it happens, makes the pass out and lets the Nets play 4 on 3 which isn't bad, but it's not James Harden.

I can see that he's looking a bit slower and yes his 3 point shot is no where near the level it usually is at, cause Harden be making difficult side step threes, so much so that Scottie Pippen said that he would defend him from behind. What a time.

Harden is shooting 39% from 3 compared to 36, 37% from 3 so it's not even that bad.

Rather than developing a rhythm for himself, he is still continuing to go for these fouls. Harden mentioned not being able to play pickup, not being able to really practice. Well the actual reps he's having in game aren't just stepbacks, floaters, snake dribbles, no, it's a bunch of shots in which he is looking for a foul that won't be called.

Maybe he feels like he can't get the same shots he did before until he gets his rhythm but then here's my main concern.

Harden is known to get tired towards the end of the season, he runs out of gas, he gets hurt, it's a durability thing. I believe that Harden will adapt his game, he's a great player that has many weapons, but one, will he revert to trying to get easy points in high stakes situations when he tires? Will a lack of free throws mean less times for him to rest on the court? I understand he has a guy named Kevin Durant on the floor and so that should be all the rest he needs.

These rule changes are taking a huge part of Harden's game, habit that have been ingrained. We're talking about a guy who has more free throws made than field goals.
