Rode nt1a vs AT2020 vs MXL 990

This video compares the Rode nt1a, the Audio Technica 2020 and the MXL 990 on vocals, acoustic guitar and electric guitar.

My home studio has always had between 1 and 4 rode nt1a microphones it it with 1 always in it's shock mount set up and ready to go. All three microphones would be a great start to any home studio and if you are looking to upgrade to any of the three, then they are all excellent choices

One thing to bare in mind is that the rode and MXL both come with very nice shock mounts. The Audio Technica 2020 does not come with one but third party shock mounts can be purchased fairly cheaply.

All three microphones are in the same price bracket, all are fairly cheap but would make great entry level microphones - far better than anything of a lower price tag.

My favorite is obviously the Rode as I have had it for so long and cannot find a fault with it. It never gets put away and hasn't been treated very well but is still going strong years past the expiration of it's 10 year warranty.

I loved the MXL. I thought it would be awful but was pleasantly surprised. The shock mount was a great design and it feels like a pro range microphone.

The AT2020 was also great and performed as expected so I can't get too overexcited about this

In fairness, any of the three would be a great choice.
