Bilingualism and the Cultural Imperialism of language | Zoe Maria Pace | TEDxCardiffUniversity

Zoe asks the challenging question of “Why does everybody speak English?” and to what extent is that a result of a postcolonial hangover. Zoe will explore how globalisation has transformed our cultural identities, leading to English becoming the standard form of communication and how language has become a cultural currency. Zoe Pace is a dedicated third year Media and Communications student at Cardiff University with a passion for understanding the relationship between globalisation and sociocultural theory. Her unique cultural experience has given her the opportunity to give tailormade solutions to complex global phenomena. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
