Martin Reynolds ‘deeply sorry’ for organising lockdown party

Martin Reynolds, Boris Johnson's former principal private secretary, said he was 'deeply sorry' after being questioned on the 'bring your own booze' event in the No 10 garden that he organised for No 10 staff during covid.

He apologised unreservedly to the families of all those who suffered during Covid for all the distress caused. Reynolds was also asked whether it was true that in early March 2020, No 10 did not have a plan in place to deal with a coronavirus pandemic. He replied that existing structures were in place to deal with such a crisis, but were inadequate. When pushed further, he agreed that any plan was 'grossly deficient'. Reynolds also said 'it’s fair to say that the prime minister did, as it were, blow hot and cold' when it came to making a decision about lockdown.
