Η Ελένη Γλύκατζη – Αρβελέρ σπούδασε Ιστορία και Αρχαιολογία στη Φιλοσοφική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών. Συνέχισε τις σπουδές της στην École des Hautes Études στη Γαλλία, όπου αναγορεύτηκε διδάκτωρ της Ιστορίας. Υπήρξε Πρόεδρος του Πανεπιστημίου της Ευρώπης και η πρώτη γυναίκα Πρύτανης της Ακαδημίας και Καγκελάριος των Πανεπιστημίων των Παρισίων. Είναι επίτιμη διδάκτωρ πλειάδας πανεπιστημιακών ιδρυμάτων, όπως του Harvard, της Νέας Υόρκης, του Ελληνικού Καποδιστριακού Παν/μίου Αθηνών, του Παν/μίου Κρήτης κ.ά. Κατά την ακαδημαϊκή της καριέρα έχει τιμηθεί με τα ανώτερα αξιώματα. Σήμερα, θεωρείται μια απ' τις πλέον εξέχουσες πανεπιστημιακές προσωπικότητες, με πολυάριθμες διαλέξεις και ομιλίες ανά τον κόσμο.

«Υπάρχει συνέχεια στην ελληνική ιστορία; Ή μήπως η ελληνικότητα είναι απλά ένα κατασκεύασμα;»

Με αυτό το διπλό ερώτημα η Ελένη Γλύκατζη – Αρβελέρ ξεκινά το ταξίδι στα μονοπάτια της ιστορίας, της εθνικής συνείδησης και της σχέσης του παρελθόντος με το μέλλον. Σε μια εποχή όπου όλες αυτές οι έννοιες βρίσκονται στο προσκήνιο πολιτικών και διεθνών διαλόγων, τα λόγια της Ελένης Γλύκατζη – Αρβελέρ ηχούν με νέα αξία και σημασία. Helene Glykatzi-Ahrweiler studied History and Archaeology at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens. She continued her studies at the École des Hautes Études in France, where she obtained her doctorate in History and Classics. She has been a Principal at the University of Europe, and she became the first woman Rector of the Academy and Chancellor of the Universities of Paris. She is an honorary doctor of a multitude of universities, such as the ones of Harvard, New York, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Crete and others. Throughout her academic career, she has been awarded the highest of honors. Today, she is considered one of the most eminent academic personalities, with many lectures and speeches throughout the world.

“Does Greek history have continuity? Or is modern Hellenicity just a construct?”

With this double question, Helene Glykatzi-Ahrweiler starts traveling in the pathways of history, ethnic identity and the connection between past and future. In an age where these notions are in the forefront of several political and international dialogues, the words of Helene Glykatzi-Ahrweiler echo with renewed importance.
